The Prime of Our Lives is the successor to A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Four-Point! The articles were written during a three year span beginning in early 1996 (where Four-Point left off). Like its predecessor Prime includes never before published material. Unlike its predecessor, there are no pictures of elephants.

No snakes dropped around my neck this trip, and I rode no elephants. This was my third visit to Pattaya, Thailand, my third in a year. By now I’m an old hand, jaded to the mysteries of Old Siam. Well, Marty and I did stumble across some elephants wandering around the intersection of Suhkumvit Road and Soi 21, but since we ourselves were large, shambling creatures staggering through that intersection, who were we to question the elephants right to do the same? And, I did eat a beetle one night, but by the third bar, anything and everything seemed like a good idea. No, this time around I came to concentrate on the backgammon (while Marty came to complain about the lack of cable TV, and to fleece our friends Kai and Wan at baccarat).
